Post details: New PostgreSQL package
I have updated our PostgreSQL package to use versioned data directories. Because PostgreSQL tends to be a database backend that requires dump/restore cycles often enough, I took a hint from the Oracle's Administrators guide and configured with PGDATA=/srv/pgsql/8.1. The Oracle DBAs also store their tablespace files in versioned data directories for pretty much the same reasons.
It would be good practice to create a dump of your PostgreSQL databases before upgrading - so that you can import them into the new setup. Of course, with conary you can always go back to the previous version and create the export in case you forgot, then update again. Conary absolutely rocks!
