We closed on the new house on Friday. Stack after stack of papers to sign, but it felt good! Since we don't have to be out of our current place for another three weeks, we decided to do some minor improvements before we actually finish moving in. We started with the kitchen--there was some nasty flowery purple wallpaper in there. We tore that down without much effort, cleaned up the walls, prepared for primer, and then Liza had the idea that she wanted to remove the "popcorn" ceiling. We also picked out a color to paint the walls (Laura Ashley collection, Lemon Grass: it's yellow, except when it's near green things, then it's green.), so we headed to Lowes to pick up the paint. She found a scraper to remove the popcorn, and *bam*, instant clouds of plaster! We managed to remove all of the popcorn and prime the entire ceiling tonight. All we planned to do tonight was have the walls primed, so we're not too far off schedule. Painting the ceiling was easier than I thought it would be, and it goes pretty quickly. Our stuff isn't moving to the new place quite as quickly as I'd like, but we'll get there.
I called Time Warner Cable today to transfer our cable internet service. They told me that my new address is unservicable, and they couldn't tell me why. He looked up one thing, and then said he could put it into another system to see if someone had been out there to tell for sure that it was unservicable, otherwise they could send someone out. He mumbled something about the house being too far away from the road. He didn't seem at all interested in helping me, so I scheduled our existing service for cancelation, and I guess I'll call back again. Maybe I'll talk to someone more helpful. Our other option is DSL, but that involves paying for a local phone line, which I don't really want to do.
